MA student and Bridge to Doctorate Fellow in History, University of Virginia

Alexis Swope (they/she) is a MA student and Bridge to Doctorate Fellow in History at the University of Virginia, along with intent to pursue a Women, Gender, & Sexuality Graduate (WGS) Certificate. Their areas of research interest are African American Studies, Black Feminist Theory, Transgender Studies, Gender and Sexuality, Political Imagination, and Revisionary History. In addition, their master thesis will explore theoretical approaches of historical connections between Black literary imagination, racial subjugation, gender and sexuality, and the shaping of Black Trans and Queer identities during (slavery and the aftermath) mid-nineteenth century to present day.
