THOMAS KLUBOCK
Environmental History and the Global South

AFTERNOON COURSE
July 5 - 7, 2016
2.00 - 4.00 (Aula GAMBI)

This course will examine the growing field of environmental history with special attention to the way environmental history, as a discipline, constitutes an important approach to conceptualizing the Global South. It begins with the premise that from its inception environmental history has been global and that a focus on ecology and environment might refine ways in which think about the geography of the Global South. The three seminars will look at historical texts written from both within and about the Global South on a number of themes: colonialism and empire, class, labor and the environment, and primitive accumulation or accumulation by dispossession and global frontiers
