This Seminar is intended as a genealogy of global governance. Through the reading of classical pages from Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, and Thomas Paine participants will be encouraged to discuss the spatial foundations of Modern sovereignty, the role played by colonial logics in the shaping of state power, and its concrete functioning in different colonial spaces (the Atlantic, the Indian, and the Pacific Ocean).
