PREMIERE SCREENING OF 'ANATOMY OF THE NATION'

This video artwork (15min) was created as part of the 2017 Bologna Social Practice Lab and Pedro Lasch’s Abstract Nationalism series in the iconic setting of Bologna’s Anatomical Theater. Co-directed by Rossella Mazzaglia and Massimo Carosi, it includes a new choreography by Cristina Rizzo, sound work by Mathias Hinke, and camera/editing by Rita Maralla, Teresa Sala, Benedetta Manzi, and Michael Blair. Performers include Antonia Casedei, Laura Colomban, Antonella De Francesco, Laura Gibertini, Yancen Guo, Margherita Isola, and Rossella Mazzaglia. The work was produced with the support of Archiginnasio, Danza Urbana, Fondazione Gramsci, Academy of GH&CT, Scuola di letter e beni culturali, and Teatro Anatomico staff.

Pedro Lasch ​(US/Mexico/Germany) is a visual artist, Duke professor, activist, and 16 Beaver organizer. He is also director of the FHI Social Practice Lab at Duke. His solo exhibitions and projects include Open Routines (QMA, 2006), Black Mirror (Nasher Museum, 2008), Abstract Nationalism (Phillips Collection, 2014) and Art of the MOOC (Creative Time, 2015); his work has also been exhibited at MoMA PS1, MASS MoCA (USA); RCA, Hayward Gallery, Baltic (UK); Centro Nacional de las Artes, MUAC, National Palace Gallery (Mexico); Gwangju Biennial (2006), Havana Biennial (2015), Documenta 13 (ANDANDAND, 2012), and 56th Venice Biennale (CTS, 2015), and Prospect 4, New Orleans (2017). Author of four books, his writings and art have also appeared in October Magazine, Saber Ver, Art Forum, ARTnews, Cultural Studies, Rethinking Marxism, The New York Times, and La Jornada. His pedagogical artwork ART of the MOOC, has had over 21,000 enrolled participants and learners from 134 countries since it launched in late 2015.

Rossella Mazzaglia (Italy) teaches at the University of Messina and at the University of Bologna. Her research focuses on Italian and North-American contemporary dance and theatre, social theater and community dance. She wrote books on American Movements (Judson Dance Theater. Danza e controcultura nell’America degli anni Sessanta), post-modern dance (Trisha Brown; and Trisha Brown. The invention of space with Adriana Polveroni); Italian contemporary dance (Virgilio Sieni.
