SEMINAR
July 1-4, 2014
4.30-6.30 am

The paradigm of the Universal History which nurtured Western Historiography from the 18th to the 20th Century was based on a master narrative which implied a specific space and time order. The space of the world was conceived according to a Eurocentric map and its change through time was seen through the lens of a philosophy of progress – linear or dialectic – which unified multiple historical experiences within the same temporal order. Moving from the criticism of the Universal History paradigm, a New World History developed in the late 20th century proposing new conceptions of time and space. The seminar will focus on the concepts of time and space as presented by classic and recent authors (Hegel, Marx, Weber, Koselleck, Said, Guha, Chakrabarty).
